Storage and Handling for Gaskets, Studs and Nuts
-
All products should be stored in a clean and dry warehouse
environment. Avoid prolonged contact with weather.
-
Keep large gaskets in supplied packaging until time of use. If
gasket is individually packaged on cardboard, then the cardboard is intended to
protect the gasket.
-
When removing gasket from cardboard, cut straps or tabs. Do not
allow knife blade to contact the gasket.
-
If present, remove shrink or stretch wrap prior to installation.
-
Stack gaskets during storage. Hanging gaskets can cause permanent
damage.
-
Always lift large diameter spiral wound gaskets by the outer ring.
Do not lift using the spiral wound portion. It can spring apart.
-
Do not store gaskets, studs and nuts together unless the gasket is
properly protected from damage. Kits (Gasket, stud and nuts) containing proper
quantities of materials are available.
-
Do not intentionally or unintentionally apply thread lubricant to
gasket.
-
Wall charts are available for basic reference data.
-
Colour codes for spiral wound gaskets per ASME B16.20.
-
Stud and Nut chart by standard ANSI B16.5 flanges.
-
Gaskets should be segregated according to their material composition
in order to prevent incorrect usage.
-
Studs and nuts (non-stainless) are supplied with a light coating of
machine oil. This oil provides corrosion protection and acts as a low grade
lubricant during assembly. The use of higher grade lubricants is recommended
based on application.
-
Do not store studs and nuts near or over materials that can be
damaged due to contact with oil.
-
Studs and nuts are supplied in heavy duty boxes. Although these
boxes have a high resistance to crushing, damage may occur if the weight
applied is too high. We recommend stacking to a maximum of 3 levels for all
studs and nuts. Care should always be taken when lifting these boxes as they
can be heavy.
-
MSDS
information is available upon request.
-
All asbestos containing products should be handled according to
local requirements.
